Coffee Cake and Kink

This Sunday it is one year since I met Jack. Which is pretty good going for a sex-blogger/reader relationship. But this post isn’t about Jack – this is about the place we met in person for the first time. One day, of course, there will be a blue plaque there.

I am really sad that due to landlord disputes Coffee Cake and Kink is closing down. Apparently they do plan to open at a new venue at some point but details are murky. The exact date of closure isn’t known either so get there while you can. You might even spot me there, fondling the Hun comics.

The best way to support CCK is to buy stuff from their online shop

  • I was looking through Boris Vellejo and Julie Bell art and I saw this: http://www.imaginistix.com/details.cfm?Id=982

And it made me think of you, or at least of the sort of pictures you post from time to time, so I thought that I’d share.

  • The CCK site has a running banner dated 23 July stating “BUSINESS AS USUAL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!!!” (caps & exclamation marks theirs, not mine)

Perhaps the reports of its (imminent) death have been greatly exaggerated?

  • I was bummed to read that too.

And just before my trip to London no less.

  • Which one were you? I was there, wearing a green T-shirt and looking lost.

  • L.D.: No, they just don’t want to update the site until they are a bit more sure, and obviously they have been very busy. If you go on the forums there’s a bit more info on the closing. They are definately closing, though even the owners won’t know a date until the other side says. Probably very soon though.

I have no idea what I’m going to do without a nice cafe where I can happily engage in kinky activities; I tend to go to CCK at least once a week these days, so it will be very sad to see it go.

  • Acceptable,
I’m sorry to hear it’s closing so soon – I was supposed to have visited CCK with a London friend a while back but we didn’t have enough time, I’d hoped to see it the next time around. Maybe CCK will find a new home soon, and have even greater success in the future.
Does anyone know of similar places in Europe?

  • Happy Anniversary BJ & Jack! Shame about CCK, but lucky for us, there’s still BJ & Jack (& Pan too). :D

  • I was there during easter. It was a very nice shop. I hate the stairs though. Way too steep.

  • I worked there and I have to say that while is was a great place to meet people and get exposed to new ideas, it was a difficult place to work. Sonia and Alan/Alana could be very crap to their employees. At the end, I left because I wouldn’t put up with their disgusting behavior. While the landlord issues aside were a huge problem, it was how the handled the matter as well. They should have left the building a long time ago and found a new venue, as they wasted money and time on a legal case that went tits up for them. As a result of their legal stress they took a bulk of it on the staff. They needed to employ a manager and the two of them needed to get out of the kitchen and spend more time running a business. Again, when they were horrible to their employees, they hired sub-standard people toward the end (2008) and I think business suffered a bit then because people are willing to put up with so much as a result of the legal issues. Business is business and people wanted consistency. They should have separated the legal issues from the daily running of the business. At the end, the landlord was a bully, but Sonia and Alan/Alana were overwhelmed and lost sight of the main issue at hand which was the business. It’s sad to see them reduce to an online business, but lets be honest- you can always get things cheaper and efficiently from U.S. companies or other places. With the credit crunch, will CCK the online business survive…time will tell. And yes, as a server, those stairs were a major bitch. I fell on them, thankfully without hot drinks. The suppliers for the cakes I believe were Clam’s Cakes in Wales, and the coffee was from Monmouth- so hey, if you want to experience a little of the CCK experience, taste wise, you need to head to Monmouth.
